The programme recruits a largely international student body and extends over two academic years culminating in two postgraduate awards: the MA Muslim Societies and Civilisations and the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Reflective Practice. The IIS is currently looking to recruit a Teaching and Learning Coordinator who will perform key academic and management duties in order to ensure the quality, stability and enhancement of teaching provisions pertaining to STEP, with particular focus on the MA Muslim Societies and Civilisations. In collaboration with the Programme Leader, the post holder will maintain oversight of the programme’s quality of teaching and will initiate appropriate actions towards the achievement of its learning objectives, effectively leading and developing the teaching faculty. The Teaching and Learning Coordinator will support students in achieving the highest standards of learning and professional development, providing subject specialist information as well as general advice and pastoral care. The post holder will also collaborate in a range of other critical initiatives, including organising and conducting seminars; maintaining oversight of the programme assessments; leading, managing and developing teaching and learning approaches for the subject; coordinating the MA Research module; assisting the Programme Leader in the operational management of the programme and contributing to the formulation of the programme’s structures and policies.
The position is an advanced academic and management role. Candidates will need a PhD and post-doctoral expertise in regard to Muslim societies and civilisations, as well as substantial teaching experience in the HE sector. Experience in leadership and team building is also essential, as is experience of working in organisations within, or closely associated with, the Aga Khan network of institutions.
