SUMMARY:  The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for improving Affinity Group’s market position to achieve sustained financial growth, including both top and bottom lines through strategic planning, strong client and customer collaboration and flawless sales execution. The BDM supports long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key client & customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions.  The position will report to the President, Affinity Group Food Marketing and play a large role in the growth and future sales strategy of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Region Development Manager to execute tactics of the Business Unit Strategic Plan for assigned territory.
  • Deliver annual volume, net growth and other Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) established for all business strategies.
  • Tailor tactics & strategies to address top clients and local market opportunities.
  • Assist with developing and executing sales plans to address market opportunities and gaps to meet/exceed annual operating plans (AOP’s) and top client objectives.
  • Represent Affinity Group as an advocate of the foodservice operator, ensuring all decisions and actions put the operators’ success first.
  • Build business relationships with strategic clients, key operators and distributors.
  • Leverage insights to support and provide guidance/direction to sales team to drive sales growth & profits for the organization through distribution and key operators.
  • Generate results-based activity plans (weekly and monthly) for developing new business with customers and distributors.
  • Review market analysis & insights to determine client and customer needs, sales potential and sales strategies to meet company’s growth goals.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive insights based on products, industry and small business knowledge and continually educate operator on the differences and value of Affinity Group portfolio.
  • Assist with executing Trimester Planning Strategy to connect strategy with local execution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • College degree preferred
  • 6-10 years’ experience with a foodservice brokerage agency, foodservice operations, management and/or national manufacturer calling on key regional distributors and local leverage operators (LLO’s) required.
  • Ability to create long-term and short-term financial sales objectives and execute against them
  • A positive, professional, and proactive attitude.
  • Strong communication and financial acumen skills required.
  • Leadership and management skills preferred.
  • Adept at building trust and credibility
  • Planning and organizational skills
  • Works well with teams and has strong motivational skills
  • Strong problem solving and strategic planning skills
  • Able to navigate and use the CRM System daily
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Supervisory and Reporting Responsibilities:     

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities
  • Reports to Affinity Group Food Marketing Senior Leadership

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: 

  • Candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Work may be performed in an Affinity Group office or warehouse environment.
  • Periodically requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time at trade shows.
  • Flexible work hours to accommodate demands of position (some weekends included).
  • May require travel up to 75% of the time within territory.
